Making Roman Mosaics
Using Different Materials
Students will make a Roman mosaic with different materials.
Students will learn to code using Hour of Code: Little Dot Adventure
Resources:
Lesson
- First Assignment
- Students explored videos and photographs of the Roman mosaics in Risan, Montenegro.
- After tracing a circle (yogurt lid) on grid paper, the students sketched a section of the mosaic.
- Second Assignment
- Students cut paper to make the tiles to recreate the same section of the mosaic.
- Third Assignment
- Using air dry clay and beans, the students recreated the mosaic.
(I did purchase green and red beans as well as black and white. I wanted to give the students some choice other than black and white. I said we were not copying the mosaics of Risan but rather we are inspired by them to create our own mosaics).
- Fourth Assignment
- Students practiced their coding: Hour of Code: Little Dot Adventure
